Video: "A Twinkle Baa" (Readeez-Style) - Alastair Moock

It's the song (and video) so good it needs a sequel. Yes, Alastair Moock's mangled classic "CBAs" from his fine These Are My Friends disk has a second video. It's actually for the brief "A Twinkle Baa" reprise at the end of the album, featuring Moock's daughters joining in. While this one is animated, too, this time the animation comes courtesy of Readeez mastermind Michael Rachap, who knows a good tune when he hears it. Video: "Flapjacks" - Recess Monkey

Remember when Recess Monkey's Drew Holloway walked around in a big paper bag and tights for a video? Well, they found someone as daring as he -- Sirius-XM's Kids Place Live's Mindy Thomas, AKA Absolutely Mindy. (Yes, they meet again!) I'm disappointed that they don't actually talk at all about muffins on "Making Muffins with Mindy," but Mindy's willingness to trash her kitchen is admirable. Recess Monkey - "Flapjacks" [YouTube]

Monday Morning Smile: "Monster Went and Ate My Red 2" - Elvis Costello & Elmo

Yeah, this is pretty much as dorky-cute as you'd expect if somebody told "Hey! Elvis Costello sang a parody of one his classic hits with Elmo from Sesame Street!" Actually, amidst all of Declan's mugging, I think I actually prefer Elmo's backup singing ("a-oh!"). It's been floating around the interwebs for awhile, so you may have seen it already, but if you haven't, it's definitely worth your time. If I have to explain the reference, then you're probably not gonna appreciate the video anyway. Elvis Costello (w/ Elmo) - "Monster Went and Ate My Red 2" [YouTube]

Video: "Butterfly Driving a Truck" - Chris Ballew

Check out the sharp new, er, Sharpies employed by Chris Ballew and his daughter Josie for his latest video. It's "Butterfly Driving a Truck" from Ballew's latest Caspar Babypants album SING ALONG! (that's an order, though a relatively easy one to comply with for that album). It's a simple video to go along with a simple song, but cute and well-presented -- very nice. The Five Best Halloween Kids Music Videos... Ever?

Well, of course not. I mean, I'm sure a Halloween kids music video will come out next year that will knock number 5 below out of the list. [Ed.: Heck, I forgot one already, added as #6, that should've been in the top 5.] But they're five videos six worth your family's 15 minutes or so. 5. John Hadfield - "Robot Monkey Head" [YouTube] OK, technically speaking this isn't a Halloween video. But it darn well should be. The list continues...

More Halloween Songs and Videos

In my last edition, I highlighted some free Halloween tunes. This time 'round, the songs aren't free, but the videos are. Is that better or worse? First up, Princess Katie and Racer Steve hired a 53-piece orchestra for their Halloween tune, which is about 51 more pieces than they could have gotten had they hired the Shepherd family. I think they made the right choice. Also, I draw like crap, so the video's waaaaay better, too. Princess Katie and Racer Steve - "Halloween" [YouTube] But wait, there's more!
