New Wee Hairy Beasties For The Holidays

Word from Sally Timms (AKA Monkey Double-Dippey) that the Wee Hairy Beasties will have not one but two albums coming out in the next 2-3 months. The first is Creepy Lullabies, a double 7" single which will be released Oct. 14 on their own, new Wee Beatz Records and credited to -- get this -- the "Wee Scary Beasties." Ha! Timms promises "songs about lonely vampires, monsters busting a move, and a... veggie-patch dweller named Pumpkinhead." It's on vinyl, but there will be digital downloads available for those of us who aren't hip enough to have kept their record player. (You know what, they totally need to start releasing kids' songs on this kind of vinyl.) The second album is a Christmas/holidays-themed album, which I believe will bypass the vinyl stage. Because I love you guys, I'm gonna give you some recently-recorded Wee Hairy Beastie YouTubage... And one more "Wild Thing"...

Celebrate Inauguration Day With Robbert Bobbert

I don't know the political leanings of Robert Schneider of The Apples in Stereo, but Little Monster Records will be releasing his debut children's music album as Robbert Bobbert -- Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine on January 20th, 2009. That's right, Inauguration Day. No word if Barack Obama or John McCain (or, for those of you a little more third-party-ish, Bob Barr or Ralph Nader) will ask Schneider to play the inauguration balls, though perhaps "We R Super Heroes" (track 2) might be appropriate. The album will also be available for the holidays via digital distribution on November 28, 2008, thereby making the "Fall 2008" claim reported earlier this year reasonably accurate. Here's the tracklisting...

There's A Party On My Stereo: Yo Gabba Gabba Album / DVD Out October 14

Hot on the heels of the this week's Season Two premiere of Yo Gabba Gabba! comes word that episodes of Season One of the show will hit DVD on October 14 (Yo Gabba Gabba!: The Dancey Dance Bunch. Really.) [Update: I got an update from the folks at Viacom. It is not a complete set, but just four shows with a MSRP of $16.99 -- "Friends," "Eat," "Dance," and "Happy." Sorry if the original vaguely worded heads-up from Viacom made me think it was a complete season set. It's not. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Hey, there's a song there...] Yeah, yeah, I know there are some big fans of the show out there, but even cooler from my perspective is the news that October 14 will also see the iTunes release of a digital-only Yo Gabba Gabba! soundtrack. That's right -- those of you with a desperate need to have "Party In My Tummy" available to you at a moment's notice in the car or during a particularly recalcitrant dinner experience will now be able to fill that need. For the rest of us, Mark Kozelek's great "Bedtime Lullaby" will do just fine. And because the album tracks will be available a la carte, you'll be able to pick and choose... The full track listing after the jump.

New Pirate Music in 2009. And, Yes, That Video

EmphaticalPiratical.jpgToday (Friday) is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so it's only appropriate that the word from Captain Bogg & Salty is that, shiver me timbers, they will have a new album coming out in the new year. Emphatical Piratical is the album's name, and it'll be released in early 2009 (though attendees at this weekend's Portland Pirate Festival might be able to pick up an early copy). Here's the track listing... 1. Emphatical Piratical 2. Don’t Drink Sea Water 3. Port Side 4. Treading the Seas for Pirate Gold 5. Bunnyjacks 6. Frogg Island 7. Purple Tiki 8. The Plank Walker 9. Sea Monster II 10. Never Smile at a Crocodile 11. Waltz of the Waves 12. Who’s at Captain’s Table? And, after the jump, quite possibly the best kids music video ever. If you haven't seen it, click through. And if you have, then click anyway, 'cuz you know how great it is.

New Music On Its Way from the Sippy Cups

It's been a little while since I talked about the Bay Area's The Sippy Cups (last time: Austin Kiddie Limits 2007), but they announced last week that they'll be releasing an iTunes EP entitled One Day Soon, which will feature (among other things) a couple songs from their 2009 album The Time Machine. "More acoustic, intimate, and gentle," they promise, which makes it sound like it'll be a dead ringer for Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in New York. Anyway, if you're looking for some more recent visual input regarding the band (they're a very visual band), you can check out this slideshow from Sippy Paul, which includes a lot of photos from their sojourn out East, including pictures with Joan Osborne.

I Will Not Use "Might" Or "Giants" In This Title. Or Even "Science"

... even though it's related to They Might Be Giants and their next kids' album. Normally I wouldn't be too concerned with the kids music opinions of a 48-year-old man with no children, but when said 48-year-old man is TMBG's John Flansburgh, I'm willing to make an exception. In Sunday's New York Times, Flansburgh lists five artists and albums he might have his kids listen to, if, you know, he had kids. Gettings props? Baby Loves Hip-Hop (the Dino-5), Tiny Masters of Today, and fellow scarred Disney Music Block Party Tour veteran (yes, the whole sorry chapter is over tomorrow) Dan Zanes. Plus a couple other somewhat surprising choices. (And suddenly, news that the band is working on its next kids' album, this one devoted to science -- hat tip Bill -- is everywhere, as the Times article mentions that Flansburgh's spending time writing songs for that next kids album. Though let's all hope Here Comes Science is just a working title, because hoo-ee, that's a stinker.)
