Video: "Haircut" - The Not-Its

Seattle's sartorially-superior schoolhouse rockers The Not-Its are releasing their fifth album Raise Your Hand in a couple weeks and judging by their brand new video for "Haircut" (premiered this morning over at USA Today's Pop Candy blog), they have chosen to not cut their hair until the album actually drops.  This will amuse the kids and parents for different reasons -- the kids for the silly hair, the adults for the silly... OK, it'll amuse 'em for the same reason.  (Is it churlish to wish they'd also thrown in a Pavement reference?)

Video: "Tiny Little Car" - Johnny Bregar

It's been a little since we've had some new music from Johnny Bregar (the last being 2012's My Neighborhood) but thankfully the dry spell will soon be coming to an end.  The Seattle-based Bregar will release a new album this fall loosely tied to the theme of imagination, and he's getting a super-early start on videos for the album.  He's just released a video for "Tiny Little Car," and the visuals from Blue's Clues animator Seth Zeichner are cute.

I don't recommend letting your dog drive just so you can play the guitar in the back seat, I don't care how tiny and/or little your car is.

Video: "Pillow Fort Pillow Fight" - Secret Agent 23 Skidoo

With his album The Perfect Quirk coming out this week, I guess Secret Agent 23 Skidoo wanted to celebrate in style.  While I would've thought that skydiving and running a "Year of the Weird" contest which nets the winner free entry to any Skidoo concert for the rest of their life would have been enough, he also went down a more conventional album-promotion path by releasing (earlier this month) the video for "Pillow Fort Pillow Fight."

Nobody can say Skidoo isn't throwing himself into this, what with (lip-synching) fresh flows while rockin' one of the most delightfully absurd outfits you will ever see anyone struttin' around in.

Video: "Dynamite" - Alphabet Rockers

I don't really have much to say about this song and video from the Bay Area's Alphabet Rockers except that the song, which tips its cap to "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" before moving on past that to get kids moving, NAILS IT.  It's a simple pop song in the best of ways.

Also, libraries rock.

Video: "Brick By Brick" - Recess Monkey

Today is release day for Recess Monkey's Wired album, which has a definite maker theme.  One of the most maker-like songs -- and one of my favorites -- is the Duplo-by-way-of-Ted-Leo-ish rocker "Brick By Brick."  It's not quite the LEGO Movie in scope or execution, but it's a fun 150-or-so seconds of miniature construction.

Video: "The Bossy E" - Mister G

The private eye (private "E"?") who stars in Mister G's latest video has a bit of an attitude.  But since he's "The Bossy E," and he even has an entire album named after him (out June 24), I suppose he's entitled to his... entitlement.  With the appealingly animated video from Leandro Antolini and Andrea Cingolani, the surf-rock tune conveys just one point -- how the addition of "e" at the end of a word can change its sound.  (I'm also amused by how Mister G calls that "e" "bossy" while The Bazillions call it "silent."  Perhaps there's some Sheryl Sandberg subtext there?)
