"Triangular Triangles" - The Bazillions

Artist: The Bazillions

Song: "Triangular Triangles"

Album: Heads or Tales

Description: Another video from the band's Kickstarter project via eg design.  Songs about math are probably harder, generally speaking, to visualize than those about words (let alone stories), so while the base song works well, the video itself pretty much does a perfect job in describing those three types of triangles.

"Domingo the Flamingo" - Laura Doherty

Artist: Laura Doherty

Song: "Domingo the Flamingo"

Album: In a Heartbeat

Description: A gentle animated video from Dennis Mazur for Doherty's gentle song about a flamingo who, like Doctor Worm, most enjoys drumming.  I often look for the little touches that I like to think were thrown in because they made the creator(s) laugh, and in the case of this video, it's the sight of the flamingo zipping through his weekly schedule on his smartphone.

"Fanny Pack" - Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Artist: Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Song: "Fanny Pack"

Album: Whoopty Whoop

Description: If you had told me that I would be posting a video that includes the use of Comic Sans, I would not have believed you.  But this lyric video for the first single from the Twin Cities' band forthcoming May 2014 album is so gloriously goofy (think of the song source), that I could not hold my churlish standards for long.

"I Wanna Play" - Bill Harley

Artist: Bill Harley

Song: "I Wanna Play"

Album: I Wanna Play

Description: Harley's song encouraging inclusion and standing up for one's own self is buoyed by a nifty bluegrass tune, so of course the video would be a bunch of animated mythological characters, right?  OK, perhaps it's not the very first theme that leaps to mind, but the finished product from director Greg Lytle is every bit as nifty as the song.  Also, head over to Harley's contest page for a chance to win a copy of the album the song is drawn from.

"The Tallest Hamburger" - Brock Ginther

Artist: Brock Ginther

Song: "The Tallest Hamburger"

Album: The Breakfast Cowboy

Description: It's an animated slideshow about... a really tall hamburger.  To say any more about the surreal Shel Silverstein-esque song (and video) would sort of spoil it.  It's goofy and I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea, but the song from the Portland, Oregon-based songwriter and the illustrations from his wife Kathryn is worth a couple minutes of exploration.

"Moustaches" - The Zing Zangs

Artist: The Zing Zangs

Song: "Moustaches"

Album: Blast Off!

Description: I'm not sure I can condone the Canadian spelling of mustaches in this song, the growing of mustaches (I was not a Movember participant), or the use of MS Paint or some Flash-based animation software to draw mustaches.  But the combination of the three, plus the assorted cameos, I guess I (and your kids) can live with that.

"Colour It" - Helen Austin

Artist: Helen Austin

Song: "Colour It"

Album: Colour It

Description: If you're going title your album Colour It  and feature a song with that same name and make that your first video, when then you darn well better make that video, well, colourful.  This video, feature simple MS Paint-like animation, fits the bill.  Simple but cute for the wee ones, with a tender song to match.

"Gaia She Knows" - The Hipwaders

Artist: The Hipwaders

Song: "Gaia She Knows"

Album: N/A

Description:  For the video for this slower Americana-tinged tune about a six-year-old girl wanting to encourage a more ecologically sound lifestyle, the band and animators Planet Sunday wisely shift gears from the blockier, funnier animation style they typically employ to softer line drawings, with a less finessed visual composition.  It matches the song very well and is, in spots, plain lovely.
