DIY Sampler - Lunch Money

1000w.jpg

Artist: Lunch Money

Album: N/A

Description: South Carolina's beloved Lunch Money recorded several of their songs at North Carolina's Old House Studios.  Now you can download three tracks from the band's wonderful Spicy Kid album, four from Original Friend, plus a song they recorded for the Richland Library Growing Savers Program.  You're gonna have to do it yourself, but we like DIY 'round here.

The Peculiar Tales of the S.S. Bungalow (Demo Tracks)

Artist: The S.S. Bungalow (aka Jason Reuter)

Album: The Peculiar Tales of the S.S. Bungalow

Description: It's a Kickstarter project from Portland, it's a plane... no, it's just a Kickstarter project from Portland.  They've got less than 2 days to go, and they're close.  Perhaps a free download (or even a spin) of 3 demo tracks from the album might convince you.  I think you might be pleasantly surprised and inspired to throw in a ducat or two.

Introducing the Jelly of the Month Club - Jelly of the Month Club

Artist: Jelly of the Month Club

Album: Introducing the Jelly of the Month Club

Description:  I hope to have a review of the debut album from this all-star band featuring SoCal ska/surf/soul musicians soon, but in the meantime, here's an opportunity for you to download the whole album.  It's "name your price," but since they're asking for donations to fund their next video, it'd be churlish not to throw in at least a buck or two (or more).

"Hinterlands" - Dog on Fleas

Artist: Dog on Fleas

Song: "Hinterlands"

Album: Buy One, Get One Flea

Description: New music from the New York band Dog on Fleas is always reason for celebration.  Especially when it's free.  It's from their upcoming 2014 album (love that title, by the way), and their description -- "adventurous songs on the jazzier, campier side of things" -- fits this lovely, shambling track perfectly.

Songs for a Healthier America - Various Artists

Artist:  Various Artists

Album: Songs for a Healthier America

Description:  This album, presented by Hip Hop Public Health and Partnership for a Healthier America, features songs that are "designed to motivate kids to make healthier exercise and lifestyle choices."  Longtime readers will know that good intentions don't carry much weight (pun unintended) with me, and while most of the album isn't kindie strictly speaking, Brady Rymer's "Jump Up (It's a Good Day)" is on there, as is a track from Mil's Trills' Amelia Robinson.  (I will admit -- your tweens may be more excited about the presence of Ariana Grande, Jordin Sparks, or Ryan Beatty.  Just go with it.)

Kick Out the Jammies Sampler

Artist: Various Artists

Album: Kick Out the Jammies

Description:  The 11-song sampler from Burniside Distribution is the second free Amazon sampler (here's the first from a couple years ago) from the Pacific Northwest distributor, and it's a solid collection, with great tracks from Key Wilde & Mr. Clarke, the Verve Pipe, Recess Monkey, Caspar Babypants, Cat Doorman, Readeez, and more.  In fact, you should probably have a lot of those tracks already, so get it for the ones you don't know (or your less-savvy friends who refuse to take your sonic advice).
