KidVid: "Farm Song" - Laurie Berkner

If it doesn't quite have the propulsive energy of last year's "Walk Along the River," Laurie Berkner's new song "Farm Song" does have farm animal noises and Berkner's sweet voice.

Not at the same time, luckily.

It's 2 minutes and 30 seconds of animal noises, mad bongo conga drum skillz, and tons of kids' animal costumes. (Jack evidently has a very large costuming budget.) An appealing enough video and a song that'll probably end up on a Laurie "greatest hits" CD someday in the future.

I think those are congas. But yeah, we need more of those in kids music. They sure liven things up a heck of a lot!

My littles are loving the Jack videos. They are well made. My 3 y/o daughter really likes the kids in them. There's a whole lotta Laurie's face in there. I suppose it appeals to the real littles, but whoa!

Sweet, overall. Fine.

Righto. And who knew Jon Stewart (my hero, star of The Daily Show, and a father of two) would be appearing on Jack's Big Music Show on Feb. 2nd?!? (As well as Steve Drozd of the Flaming Lips). If I had a Tivo, I'd be programming it now.
After watching the Farm Song video, I stayed on and watched additional footage of Berkner in an interview that was really great--how she got into kid's music, her suggestions on how to bring music into daily family life, how she comes up with her music ideas, etc. In the past I've been underwhelmed by her music, but I have to say I have a lot more respect for her as an artist, teacher and mom now. Good stuff.
